How can I coach somebody?
- The participant (coachee) has to be willing to be coached.
Why are we saying that? Because sometimes people wish somebody would be coached. This doesn’t work. Coaching is not about taking advice and then deciding what to do about them; it is an active process and requires a lot of effort from the participant.
- The participant decides before the meeting what the topic will be.
Each session of 1-2 hours can only have one topic and will stay for at least three months.
- The participant decides before the meeting what the goal of the coaching relationship is.
Each session of 1-2 hours can only have 1 goal. It can, however, change session-by-session
- The coach will lead the participant in identifying what the reality is.
This covers why something doesn’t work, what has been attempted, and what the results are/where.
- The coach will lead the participant in identifying options.
1. A simple list of option
2. Deep-dive into the three most likely - The coach will lead the participant in identifying a list of action items.
This is the outcome of the coaching session! Each action will have a deadline attached to it.
- A new meeting will be scheduled.
The participant will be asked to work on the action item(s) and report about them at the next session.
