Are you crazy?
What is the biggest compliment I have ever received?
It is “Are you crazy?”
Consider, for a moment, the visionaries often dismissed as “crazy” in their time. Albert Einstein proposed radical theories. These theories reshaped our understanding of the universe. Marie Curie defied convention and danger. She unlocked the secrets of radioactivity. Steve Jobs imagined technology as an extension of human creativity. He forever changed how we live, work, and connect. These individuals—among many others—were willing to risk ridicule and failure for the chance to make the impossible real. Their so-called “craziness” inspired revolutions in science, art, and society.
Courage and passion
But what exactly does it mean to be “crazy”? It is to have courage and passion in practice. Courage is not the absence of fear, but the determination to act despite it. It drives an artist to unveil a controversial piece. It motivates an activist to speak out against injustice. It compels an entrepreneur to launch an idea that defies market logic. Passion, meanwhile, is the relentless energy that sustains us through setbacks. It keeps us energized through skeptics. It is the spark that keeps us experimenting. We continue to iterate and dream beyond the obvious. In practical terms, craziness is the software developer who works late into the night to perfect a new app. Nobody asked for it (yet). Craziness is also the teacher who reimagines education to ignite curiosity rather than mere compliance.
Craziness, then, is the fusion of courage and passion—bold action driven by relentless conviction. It is the willingness to stand out, to be misunderstood, and to persist when logic suggests retreat.
What are your dreams?
As we celebrate the “crazy” among us, I invite you to think. When have you acted with a touch of craziness? What dreams, projects, or ideas have you pursued despite doubt or difficulty? Share your stories and inspire others to join this daring tradition—because, together, our collective “craziness” can change the world.
A new definition of craziness
Every good thing that you see in the world came from “crazy” people.
Let me propose a new definition of craziness: “Craziness = courage + passion”.
Let’s be crazy…. and change the world!
